Head teacher's statement

Previously, I was fortunate to be the head teacher of a Cheshire school named in the Chief Inspector's Report for 1996/97. Such an accolade is highly valued in educational circles as very few schools achieve the honour. This recognition of excellence in all aspects of school life is a source of personal and professional pride.

I have brought this experience of excellence to the headship of Leighton Primary School. My commitment to a high quality education for the children in the school is at the heart of my vocation.

The change in and around Leighton School is dramatic. New housing estates are being built transforming the community. The school has responded dynamically to the new developments in the area and the excellent support of our parents. Through our parent partnership programmes, over 40 parents have received accredited training in courses as diverse as 'Helping your Child with Reading' to the 'European Computer Driving Licence'. A number of parents bring their skills into the school by helping in an assortment of ways - it is that kind of community.

There is an excitement about being part of something new and special in our school. We know our academic results for the next two years will improve with the promise of outstanding scores by 2005. Our provision for all pupils involves programmes for gifted and talented children - with three pupils achieving level 6 in the key stage 2 tests in 2002 for science and mathematics - and a commitment to special needs pupils described as exemplary in a recent Local Education Authority report.

Please contact the school to arrange a visit to learn more about our achievements and future aspirations for our children.
